Arlington, VA (July 28, 2022) – PBS NewsHour today received a News & Documentary Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Live Breaking News Coverage category from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) for its Special Coverage of the Electoral College Count on January 6, 2021. Today’s announcement follows the April 2022 news that anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff was named the recipient this year’s Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television News.
This year’s awards will be presented during two live ceremonies, News categories on Tuesday, September 28 and Documentary categories on Wednesday, September 29, at the Palladium Times Square in New York City. The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will also be streamed live on NATAS’ dedicated viewing platform powered by Vimeo, available on the web at Watch.TheEmmys.TV and via The Emmys® apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku (full list at apps.theemmys.tv)

PBS NewsHour’s Special Coverage of the Electoral College Count As the world was witnessing the attacks on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, PBS NewsHour Capitol Hill correspondent Lisa Desjardins was the only journalist outside of lockdown and reporting from the halls of Congress. PBS NewsHour chief correspondent Amna Nawaz and former White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor relayed the events of the day as they unfolded outside of the Capitol as well.
