Earlier this month, digital strategist Amy Webb, CEO of Webbmedia Group, talked to Hari Sreenivasan on the PBS NewsHour about some of 2015’s top tech trends to watch. Here’s a breakdown: Wearables Image courtesy of Apple. Webb is following 290 wearable devices — watches, bracelets, pieces of technology a person can wear that tracks activity. The devices are connected to a smartphone, where those stats can be retrieved. Pro: Keep up with your kids’ whereabouts, monitor your health Con: Not knowing where exactly your data is living, concerns with privacy Encrypted Devices Untraced phones, like the Blackphone, and ephemeral content– networks and apps you can messages on that disappear, seemingly into thin air. Pro: Privacy and anonymity Con: Privacy and anonymity for everyone Autonomous Vehicles Think of a flying drone — one that you control. Combine that with mechanical technology that allows the drone to make decisions on its own. Add a camera to it, and now you’ve got a device that can move, “think” and surveil.
