BP just released an animation of its most recent efforts to contain the oil leak: They’re attempting to connect the lower marine riser package, or LMRP, cap on the riser and move it in place on the damaged wellhead. The containment device will start funneling the oil it can capture to a tanker on the surface. The first step of cutting off the top of the riser pipe, which was completed this morning, could temporarily increase the flow of oil from the pipe up to 20 percent. We're not going anywhere.
