JIM LEHRER:

And before we go, a song by Bobby Short, who died this morning in New York. He was a cabaret singer and New York fixture for decades, known mostly for taking his music from the so-called great American songbook, songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, the Gershwins, and others.

Short died of leukemia today. Here he is in a 1987 "Great Performances" celebrating George Gershwin. The song is called "Nobody But You."

BOBBY SHORT:

(Singing) Many queens I have seen on the stage and the screen who would never do — one of them was my choice but when I met you my thumping heart right from the start.

You right away, dear that's why I say dear, nobody but you — nobody will do.

I have seen them all but didn't fall until I saw you — who's locked in my heart? Who's my little yum-yum — honey tell me who? You know it's nobody but you nobody but you.

Nobody will do — I have seen them all but didn't fall until I saw you who's locked in my heart? Who's my little yum-yum? Honey, tell me who?

You know it's nobody but you honey, tell me who? You know it's nobody but you.
