He was a cabaret singer and New York fixture for decades, known mostly for taking his music from the so-called great American songbook, songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, the Gershwins, and others.Short died of leukemia today. Here he is in a 1987 "Great Performances" celebrating George Gershwin. The song is called "Nobody But You."
