He was a founding member of the Cuban music group known as the Buena Vista Social Club.Elizabeth Farnsworth spoke with him in 1999 after a documentary film made the group internationally famous. IBRAHIM FERRER (Translated): For me the Cuban son, the music I sing is the greatest thing in the world. Without the son, without all music, but especially the son, life is nothing. It wakes you up. It makes your blood boil with it. There is nothing dead. Everything is alive and life, being really alive, is the best thing. JIM LEHRER: Ibrahim Ferrer was 78 years old.
