Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has signed legislation that will add harsh penalties against public schools that allow transgender athletes to participate in girls' sports.
Parents in two Memphis suburbs are suing on behalf of their children with health problems. They argue that the governor's executive order has endangered these students.

The federal suit filed by the Human Rights Campaign on Tuesday is the latest seeking to overturn a long slate of bills targeting transgender people that Republican Gov. Bill Lee signed into law earlier this year.
Tennessee is the latest state to ban teachers from talking about certain aspects of race and racism in public schools. Teachers risk losing valuable state funding if they violate the new measure.
