General Motors announced Tuesday that its long-awaited Chevrolet Volt hybrid, a battery- and gas-powered electric vehicle, can get 230 miles per gallon in city driving, dwarfing every other car on the market in fuel efficiency.
In other news, the U.S. military announced that three more American soldiers were killed since Saturday in Afghanistan, bringing the total number of American deaths there in the month of August to 18.
Ford Motor Co. posted a smaller-than-expected $1.4 billion loss for the first quarter on Friday, saying that it burned through less of its cash and reiterating that it still doesn't expect to ask the government for financial help.
