Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar was shot and killed early Saturday morning in the capital of Colombo, a murder that could strain already tense relations between the government and separatist rebels in the north.
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga declared a state of emergency Wednesday, a day after firing three top ministers, suspending Parliament for two weeks and deploying troops in the capital to prevent separatist attacks.
