A U.N. tribunal convicted a senior Rwandan military officer Thursday of orchestrating Africa's largest genocide in modern history and sentenced him to life in prison for masterminding the deaths of thousands of Tutsis and moderate Hutus in 1994.

President Bush said in a statement Tuesday that Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe should step down and called for African support to end his "tyranny" as a growing chorus of foreign leaders calls for the embattled leader to quit his post.
