A typhoon that officials said was the most powerful to hit Vietnam in 20 years blew away from the country on Thursday after setting off landslides, sinking boats and knocking out power to at least 1.7 million people.

Typhoon Molave has slammed into Vietnam with destructive force, killing at least two people and sinking two fishing boats with 26 crew members in what was feared to be the most powerful storm to hit the country in 20 years.
The country, which had lifted many restrictions after more than three months with no local infections, now has 196 cases in the new outbreak.
Vietnam on Friday reported its first-ever death of a person with the coronavirus as it struggles with a renewed outbreak after 99 days with no local cases.
For 99 days, Vietnam seemed to have defeated the coronavirus. There wasn't a single reported case of community transmission.
Vietnam, widely seen as a success in dealing with the coronavirus, reimposed a social distancing order in Da Nang following the cases, the first known to be locally transmitted in the country in over three months.
