They have also turned aside his appeal for $2 billion to respond to crises in Ukraine, Iraq, and other global hotspots. The administration made the requests last Friday but they are not part of a temporary funding measure heading for a House vote Thursday. The requests were made in a document sent to Congress but not released officially. Obama pressed leaders for the authority in a private meeting Tuesday. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Congress should support the authorization. PBS NewsHour will live stream President Barack Obama’s address to the nation in the player above. The speech is scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Sept. 10. Following the address, NewsHour political analysts Mark Shields and David Brooks will discuss the president’s remarks.
