FAA suspends all U.S. flights to Tel Aviv

UPDATED 12:44 p.m. EDT: The Federal Aviation Administration has prohibited all U.S. airlines flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport for 24 hours, the Associated Press is reporting.

Delta Airlines announced Tuesday that it is canceling all flights to and from Israel until further notice.

Citing a report that a rocket landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, the airline turned around a plane headed for Tel Aviv as it was flying over the Mediterranean, the Associated Press reports. The plane flew to Paris instead.

The news agency also reports that US Airways has canceled its one flight from the U.S. to Tel Aviv.

After nearly two weeks of airstrikes and rocket fire between Israel and Hamas, more than 600 Palestinians, many of them civilians, have died, along with 29 Israelis, including 27 soldiers, Reuters reports.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to find an end to the two weeks of bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.
