Prime Minister Tammam Salam, appointed to the post in April following former Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s resignation, announced the new government on national television. Salam said he hoped to hold presidential elections by May. Workers reject UAW representation at Volkswagen factory To the surprise of United Auto Workers supporters, workers at a Volkswagen AG plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee voted against union representation on Friday night, following three days of voting. Republican U.S. Senator Bob Corker said he was ‘thrilled’ about the vote’s outcome. After the first day of voting on Wednesday, Corker said the automaker would expand the factory if the workers voted against the UAW. Severe storms and flooding plague U.K. Severe flood warnings are in place throughout England for Saturday in the midst of a series of strong storms plaguing the country. The severe weather is linked to two deaths so far, including a woman in southern London and a cruise ship passenger on the English Channel.
