Create a Pinkatastic Magical Creature

60 min activity
A mother and daughter hold up the pinkatastic creature they made together.

Pinkalicious is having a Princess of Pink slumber party with her friends Lila and Jasmine — full of forts, alligators and fast horses. But as bedtime approaches, her friends feel nervous about being away from their families and want to go home. Pinkalicious suggests they imagine a courageous and pinkerrific dragon — to help them feel safe from the bumpity bumps of the night. With her glittery wings and fiery breath their dragon Gertie treats them to toasted marshmallows and a warm, safe slumber.

What kind of magical creature might your child imagine to protect them if they are scared? Are there other times when a magical creature might be fun such as for pretend play? Guide your child in using their imagination to create a magical, fantastical creature.

Directions

1

Talk with your child about Gertie the Second, the dragon of slumber. Ask you child, "What was she like? How did she help Pinkalicious’ friends?" Wonder aloud with your child about other fantastical, magical creatures. Think about the ones Pinkalicious and Peter know such as Goldie the unicorn, Norman the Gnome or Pinkfoot! If helpful, look in books or online for inspiration. Ask your child, "What does the magical creature look like? Are they big or small? What can they do? Can they fly? Or have powers? How are they like real creatures?"

2

Anything’s possible if you imagine it! Tell your child that now it’s your turn to imagine and create a magical creature. Ask your child, "What do you want your creature to be like? A unicorn? A dragon? A fairy? Do you want it to protect, give courage or just have fun? What color will it be? Will it fly, swim, have powers like Flossie who can hear music from streams?" Invite your child to brainstorm and plan out her ideas on the paper.

3

Create your creature! Using the craft supplies, make your magical creature or creatures together with your child. Point out different features your child adds to the creature and ask questions about them. How does the creature protect your child when they are scared? How does the creature make your child feel? What is the creature’s name and why?

4

When the creature is finished, have your child share it with your family and friends. Encourage your child to tell a story about their magical creature, including any special powers!
