Here’s a craft that doubles as a fun math learning opportunity! Kids will love making and giving these colorful pattern bracelets and necklaces.

Materials

Directions

1

Presort your beads to help your child easily find colors. The neat arrangement makes the activity seem really special. Also, this will help your child concentrate on making patterns, instead of getting bogged down searching for the right colors.

2

To help beads stay on, place clear pieces of tape to the end of the strings and bend the bottom of the pipe cleaners into the shape of an "L."

3

Explain to your child that you'll be making repeating patterns together, which means that a sequence of colors needs to repeat. For example, she can make some ABABAB and ABCABCABC bracelets. Then, try creating ABCDABCDABCD and ABBABBABB patterns together. Have her say the pattern out loud.

4

If you have older children, you might try making a simple growing pattern by adding a new color to each iteration. Here's an example: blue; blue-blue green; blue-blue green-pink; blue-blue green-pink-purple; and so on. Have your child say the pattern out loud.

5

When she is done, twist the pipe cleaner ends together and trim off any loose bits. To make the necklaces, tie the strings together. Now she can wear her handcrafted necklace or give it to someone special!
