Creature Power Adventure Games

The Kratt Brothers travel around the globe on adventures where they encounter wild animals that help them to activate their creature power suits. Each animal’s creature power helps them survive in their environment. For example, the chameleon can hide from predators by staying very still and changing its colors to blend in with its environment.
Help activate your child’s creature powers with mini-challenge games where they can crawl like a turtle or swim fast like a dolphin. Use the Creaturepedia for ideas on different creature powers that will help complete each game. Then explore further, by putting all of the games together into a single obstacle course, for an exciting adventure just like the Wild Kratts!
Materials
Branch Balance
Place mops and broomsticks from end to end. Your child can pretend they are walking high in the tree branches! For example, they may choose to be a monkey. Its creature power allows it to balance as it moves quickly from branch to branch. Challenge your child in another way by asking them to balance a small branch on an outstretched arm. Ask your child if they can find the balance point of the branch and encourage them to see if they can balance the branch longer than their last try.

Leaps and Jumps
Place buckets spread out across the ground and have your child jump over them. They can make a super jump like a kangaroo or take giant leaps like a bullfrog. Substitute cups or pots if you don't have buckets. If it's difficult for your child to leap over the buckets, invite them to create the challenge course for friends. Encourage your child to try to create patterns or zig zags that create interesting types of leaps.

Burrow Crawl
Line several chairs in a row to crawl under like an animal burrowing into the ground. Ask your child what creature power they might use to complete this challenge. Maybe they can be a groundhog burrowing into the dirt to stay warm from cold temperatures. Or play this challenge game a little differently by hiding small animals under cups, switching them around, and asking your child which cup the animals are hiding under. Burrowing animals can be sneaky!

Shell Shield
Place a box or a laundry basket on your child's back to mimic a turtle's creature power of a hard shell for protection. Have them crawl from one point to another. Or what about the retraction power of a hermit crab? Yell out, "Hide!" and instruct them to retract into the safety of their shell until it is safe to move again. You can also play this challenge game by inviting your child to dress up like an animal and to move or make sounds like the animal until you say, "Hide!"

Swim Fast
Tie a blanket, curtain, or sheet to four chairs to represent water. Make sure the chairs are wide enough apart so all of your water animals can move through! Using their creature power, they can pretend to swim through the water with super-speed like a dolphin to keep away from sharks. Are there other creature powers that are perfect for swimming in the water? Or encourage your child to move slowly to reflect on how the animals moves and what sounds it might make along the way.

Obstacle Course
Put all of the games together to create the ultimate obstacle course! See how many times or how fast your child can complete it. Invite friends and family to participate as timekeepers or scorekeepers. Try using only three creature powers to complete the entire course. Mix up the fun as the children play by asking them to switch challenges when the music stops or you or another child calls out, "Freeze!"

We hope you had fun together! Snap a photo of you and your child doing the activity and share it with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. We’d love to see how it turned out!
