Hold a Family Awards Ceremony

Jul 23, 201815 min activity
Arthur and Buster sing to Mr. Ratburn to show how much they appreciate him.

Boost your child's self-esteem by helping them create awards recognizing their personal talents.

Talk with your child about how nice it is to be recognized (and to recognize others!) for the great things we all do. Everyone is great at something! Ask your child how it feels when someone compliments them, and how it feels to compliment somebody else for an accomplishment. Follow up on your conversation and build your child’s self-confidence by helping them create awards recognizing their own personal talents — and awards celebrating the talents of others, as well!

Materials

Directions

1

Help your child identify their talents. What are they great at right now? Is it hopping on one foot? Or blowing bubbles? Or being a good friend or a terrific older sibling?

2

Then, ask your child what other families members or friends are great at, too!

3

Use the paper circles to make awards for The World’s Greatest __________. Let your child decorate the awards using markers, glitter, stars, etc.

4

Hold an awards ceremony in your living room. Play music and lead the “award winners” in a procession.
