Identify Letters Written With a Fingertip

This quiet, soothing activity is an easy way to calm your child at the end of a school day or after a busy weekend of activities, while also helping your child better identify letters and numbers.

Directions
Find a warm flat surface suitable for your young child to comfortably lie on his belly. Have your child take a few deep breaths before lying down on his belly.
Slowly write letters vertically — upper and lower case — one at a time, nice and big across his back. Ask your child to quietly call out each letter. Add numbers as your child becomes comfortable with the game.
For older kids, spell words one letter at a time or write out math equations. Do math by using your fingertip to make a number on their back, then a plus or minus sign, followed by another number and then an equal sign. Not only will your child have to focus intently on each letter in the word and each piece of the equation, he will also have to spell out the word and solve the problem all while calmly and quietly relaxing with his eyes closed.
