Super Why!

Magnetic Letters

May 10, 2019

Create your own magnetic letters to use as a Super Why! party activity or to send home in a party favor bag.

Materials

Directions

1

Cut out a variety of letters from craft paper or purchase pre cut paper letters from a craft or teacher supply store.

2

Using hot glue, attach a magnet to the back of each letter.

3

Using a magnetic surface such as a chalkboard, play letter and word games at your Super Why! birthday party. Below are a few letter and word game ideas that you can use depending on the age and reading level of your party guests.

  • Alphabet Adventures: Have the birthday child choose a letter from the pile of letters and then identify the letter and what sound(s) it makes. Going in a circle or around the table, each other party guest can then say a word that starts with that letter. For an added challenge, have each guest say the words that the other guests have already said and then add on a new word. Play again having a different child choose a letter from the letter pile.
  • Rhyme Time: Using the magnetic boards and letters, have each party guest choose three rhyming words of their choice and then sing Wonder Red's rhyming song with their words. Park, spark, bark, wonder-iffic you're terrific.
  • Story Time: Create a story together. Have all birthday party guests form a circle, each with their magnetic board and letters. To start the game, the birthday child puts one word on his or her magnetic board. The next guest in the circle then chooses a word to put on his or her magnetic board. This process continues until every guest around the circle has a word on their board. Read the words in order out loud. Do the words form a sentence or story that makes sense or is it super silly?
  • Make up your own letter and word games!

After the party, send the magnetic letters home in the party favor bags.
