Make a Memory Book

Making a memory book is a great way to share stories with loved ones. Create a memory book with your child to help them practice writing and telling stories.

When Grandpa Dave starts to have trouble with his memory, Arthur, D.W. and Francine make a memory album to help him remember past events. Sharing stories with loved ones is a wonderful way for children to engage and learn about their family and friends.

Create a memory book with your child for yourself or to share with a family member. What memories will your child include? What memories about your family can you share with your child?

Materials

Directions

1

Together with your child, think of important events from the last year. They can be things that took place at school, at home, or with family and friends.

2

Ask your child to draw these favorite memories on a few sheets of paper.

3

Encourage your child to write captions to go along with the pictures. If your child needs help writing, offer to write the captions for them.

4

Stack the pages together and place a blank sheet of paper on top. Then, punch holes near one edge of the paper and tie with yarn, string, or secure with paper fasteners.

5

Ask your child to decorate the cover of their memory book with glitter, stickers, or additional drawings. What will the title of their memory book be?

6

When the book is finished, look at the pages together. What stories can they share about the special memories?
