Child and dad with a Father’s Day card.

Father’s Day is a time to show appreciation and celebrate the fathers and father figures in our lives. Daniel Tiger learns that making something special for his dad is one way to say, “I love you!” Daniel draws a picture and writes a special note on the inside for his dad. He goes with his mom to the post office and mails it.

You can help your child find the perfect gift that expresses what their father or father figures mean to them. One idea is to make something special to mail to their dad, just like Daniel did. Making and sending this Father’s Day card will give your child a way to show dad just how much he is loved!

Materials

Directions

1

Have your child take their paper and fold it in half. The paper size should be around a standard letter size of 8.5” x11”.

2

Ask your child what they would like to draw. It could be something they enjoy doing with their dad or a picture of their dad.

3

Using paints, markers, or crayons, help your child draw their picture on one side of the folded paper. Remind them that dad will love this surprise so much no matter what they draw!

4

After your child has finished their picture, unfold the paper and help them write a message on the inside. Ask your child what they would like to write to dad. It could be as simple as, “I love you.” Be sure to have them sign their name too.

5

Fold the paper closed, and place it in an envelope, help your child address the envelope and add postage.

6

Now it’s time to mail the card! Explain to your child how excited dad will be to get a special card in the mail from them, even if dad lives at home. You can then go to the post office or your mailbox to send the card.
