Make an Audio Message That Matters

After a mishap with the dog sled, Tooey’s dog, Anka, goes missing! Molly helps Tooey search for his pet, but despite the path they create for her out of dog biscuits and clothing, she doesn’t return. Determined to find her, Molly and Tooey create a radio message to broadcast to the community to seek help. Their message works when a caller leads them to a very happy Anka!
What special audio message might you and your child make? Work together to think of the what, where, who, and why of your message. Record and send the message to friends and family. Remember Auntie Midge’s advice: keep it short and sweet, like her!
Materials
Directions
Talk with your child about important messages, such as birthday greetings, invitations, news events and even missing pets. Ask you child, "Why are these important? Who needs to hear the messages?"

Ask your child to think of ways people share important messages. Brainstorm different methods such as the internet, newspapers, text messages, cards and radio. Talk about why Molly and Tooey use the radio for their message, and what you notice about the message.
Invite your child to think of a special audio message that they might want to share with friends and family. Have your child write down what they want to say and any important details of the message — who, what, when and where. Keep it short, sweet and fun!

Practice the audio message before recording. Help your child make it clear and effective, using Tooey’s message to help.

Record the audio message and send it to friends and family. Ask your child, "Did the message work? How was it received?" What did your child learn about this way of sending messages?
