Make Appreciation Cards

Jul 23, 2018
Father and daughter drawing appreciation cards together.

Help your child talk about appreciation by making cards for the special people in their life.

Before You Play

Ask your child to think about what it means to “appreciate” someone or something. Tell your child some of the reasons you appreciate them (ie: they are helpful, a good singer, fun, etc.) Share what you both appreciate about other people in your lives, too.

Materials

Directions

1

Slap your thighs and clap your hands as you teach your child this cheer: 2, 4, 6, 8! Whom do we appreciate?

2

After singing the verse, ask your child to name a person they appreciate and why. Chant the verse several times, adding different answers. (If playing with several children, let them take turns answering.)

3

Help your child create special cards for the people they appreciate. Fold a piece of paper in half and write the worlds “2, 4, 6, 8! Whom do I appreciate?” on the outside.

4

Inside the cards, have your child draw the person they appreciate and write (or you write) an explanation in the card.
