New Year’s Eve Origami Popper

To close out the year and welcome a new one, celebrate with some paper poppers! They’re super easy to make — but that’s not all — you and your child will learn how to say “Happy New Year” in different languages.
Materials
Directions
Fold paper in half by length, crease. Unfold. Fold paper in half by width, crease. Unfold.
Fold all corners toward the center. Again, crease. You’ll want to crease the paper after all the folds.
Fold the top of the paper towards you.
Fold the left and right sides to meet. The points will extend below the edge of the paper.

Flip the popper over. Fold the left side to the right side. It’s ready to pop!
Hold the popper by the bottom (the two extended triangles you folded together), raise your arm and snap it down. The popper will open and cause a POP. If it doesn’t pop right away, loosen the front flap a bit. That’s the part that opens to catch the air. Also, be sure to hold the ends tight.

Have everyone write their message on their poppers. Search online to find out how to say Happy New Year around the world or write your own message. Next decorate them using crayons, markers or colored pencils. Then, when everyone pops their poppers to celebrate, their New Year’s message will be revealed.

After it pops, fold it up and it’s ready to pop again.
