Put on a Puppet Show

Puppet shows allow children to experiment with storytelling and imagination. Explore the basic elements of storytelling while you craft Peg-themed puppets and a theater for your show.
Materials
Theater Directions
Download and print the PEG + CAT background and curtain template.
The shoebox will be your stage! Pick a background, color it, and then tape it to the inside of the shoebox. You may need to trim the background paper.

Wrap the outside of the box with your decorative paper.

To make the side curtains, fold two pieces of red construction paper an accordion. Each fold should be about the same size. Trim them so they fit inside the shoebox then glue one curtain to each side of the box. Be sure to glue only the end fold to the box.

To make the top curtain, use the curvy template to trace a row of curves on the red construction paper. Cut out the curvy piece and trim it to the length of the shoebox.
Fold the top curtain in half lengthwise and glue the straight, flat side to the ceiling of the box so the curves frame the top of the shoebox.

Cut out a piece of construction paper the size of the bottom of the box. Glue it in place so the stage has a floor.
Puppet Directions
Print out the pattern templates for each of Peg's friends.
Cut out the shapes that make each puppet from the pattern templates. Trace the patterns onto the designated color of construction paper.

Use the finished pictures as guides to draw the eyes, noses, mouths, and other details of each puppet with the black permanent marker.
Glue your finished puppet to a craft stick.
Now it's time to put on a show! What adventures will the characters have in your puppet theater? Where will they go (setting)? Who will they meet (characters)? What problems will they solve (plot)?
