Thumbprint Holiday Lights

Deck the halls of your holiday celebration with these easy-to-make painted paper lights.
While You Play
It's Christmastime on "Ready Jet Go!" Jet and his family notice that the houses in Boxwood Terrace suddenly have lights, candy canes and snowmen. What's going on? Jet's friends explain that this is another "Earthie" holiday with many traditions. Jet gets some of the Christmas traditions mixed up at first, but his friends eventually help him understand the Spirit of Christmas.
Candles and lights are often an important part of many winter holiday celebrations. While you and your child work on this painting project, talk about how light is part of your family's holiday celebrations. Do you hang lights on your tree or around your house? Do you light candles? Do you hang lanterns? Where else can you see lights and candles during the winter holidays? Why do you think light is important in many winter holiday celebrations?

Directions
Cut the paper into long strips.
Using the marker, draw a string for your lights on each strip of paper.

Have your child dip their thumb into one color of paint and then gently press the paint onto the paper near the string. Continue adding lights to the paper using different colors of paint to make thumbprints all along the string of lights.

Tape the paper strips together to create a long strand of lights.

That's it! Hang the painted thumbprint lights in your home and enjoy your colorful holiday decorations.
