Trace Shapes With Rocks

Practice pre-writing skills, without actually doing any writing with a pen or pencil. It’s about following the line and “tracing” the lines with rocks.

Directions
Draw shapes on the sidewalk. You can draw a house, using a square and a triangle, for example, or a tall building, using a rectangle and triangle. A circle can become the sun. You can also ask your child what he would like you to draw. If your child is able, have him draw the shapes. It'll be good practice for him.
Send your child on a hunt around the area to find lots of rocks! Just remind him that he’ll be returning them to their places later, so he'll want to remember where they came from.
Have your child just place the rocks on the lines, all of the way around, one by one. It's basically tracing the shapes with the rocks.
Add a little more learning by asking your child to identify the shapes he traced. Help him as needed, then see if he can spot any of those shapes around him–maybe a triangular roof, rectangular window, or a tire.
