It's Trolley Time! Make Your Own Trolley at Home

A special guest is arriving in Someplace Else, and everyone is so excited! But when the guest arrives, Donkey and her pals aren’t quite sure how to communicate with the guest. Together they use their problem-solving and teamwork skills to learn how to communicate with each other. Donkey and Panda discover that they can say the same thing in different ways!
Make your own Trolley to ride in and visit friends during imaginative playtime.

Directions
Gather your materials. If you don’t have red and yellow construction paper, no problem. Children can use plain paper and color it yellow and red.

Draw a circle on the yellow paper and cut it out.

Draw two lines on the red paper and cut the paper to make three red strips.

Use tape to attach the yellow circle and red strips of paper to the laundry basket or box. You can use extra red paper for the bottom if you’d like. You have made Trolley!

Children might also want to create cut-outs of Donkey Hodie and her pals from coloring pages, or they can gather and use a stuffed animal toy for extending the imaginative play when Trolley is visiting locations!

Brainstorm different places Trolley can visit. What are places that your child would like to visit? Move Trolley to different places in your home and “visit” those places.
Explore Further
Each time your child and Trolley get to a new location, have an adult role-play different ways everyone can greet Trolley. How do you say “Hello?” Donkey says “Hee-Haw!” Panda says “Hey-o!”, and Trolley says “Ding-ding!” Have fun coming up with different ways to greet each other and share ideas for saying other common things such as, “Yes,” “No,” or “Good-bye.” Extend the learning by also talking about how people communicate in different languages or using American Sign Language. As Donkey and Panda sing,”All of our neighbors are so unique. With wings and tails, whiskers and beaks. And with all of the ways they say,”Hello.” We’re happy to meet everybody we greet.”
