Write an Invitation or Thank-You Note

Invitations and thank you notes are a great way to practice writing skills and social skills. Kids love knowing that their writing has a purpose and an audience!

Has your child ever gotten a letter, thank-you note, postcard, or invitation? It’s exciting to get a note that is just for you! Who do they want to send a note to? Do they want to thank a teacher? Invite a friend to a playdate?
On a blank piece, write part of the card for your child and leave some for them to fill in themselves. For example:
Dear __________, Can you come to my house for a _________________ [playdate/tea party/game day] on __________________ [date] at ____________ [time]? We will ________________ [toy or activity you will play will]. Sincerely, ________________
Or
Dear _____________, Thank you for very much for the ___________________. I think it’s ___________________. From, __________________
For younger children, read aloud the invitation and ask your child to tell you what to write in the blanks. Ask older children to write in the blanks themselves — or use your invitation as a template for writing their own independently.
Ready to write more notes? Help your child write and mail “I miss you” or “I love you” notes to family and friends that live far away.
