A parent and child celebrate making cheesy brussels sprouts together.

Arthur’s dad spends Thanksgiving morning making his signature dish of cheesy bacon brussels sprouts and the whole family is looking forward to celebrating together! But when Arthur’s dog Pal goes missing the whole neighborhood comes to the rescue. Everyone who pitched in to help spends Thanksgiving with the family. What a fantastic way to show gratitude!

Thanksgiving is a time for showing gratitude by sharing a special meal with family and friends. Like Arthur’s dad, it is a time spent cooking signature recipes in the kitchen. Cooking a recipe together is a great way to create a new family tradition and show gratitude by sharing your meal with others. Your child can help out in the kitchen while using their early math and science skills to measure ingredients and follow directions! This cheesy bacon brussels sprouts recipe can be a tasty addition to your Thanksgiving meal. Your child can then help make something traditional for your family as well!

Ingredients

Directions

1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Share with your child the order of the steps in this brussels sprouts recipe as you create a new family tradition!

2

Wash your brussels sprouts and trim the stem. Next, cut them in half. Your child can help clean the brussels sprouts and you can do the cutting.

3

Place the brussels sprouts in a saucepan and invite your child to help pour enough water to cover them. Bring the water to a boil for 6 to 8 minutes or until the brussels sprouts are crisp-tender. Drain and return the brussels sprouts to the saucepan and set aside.

4

Cook the bacon in a pan over medium heat, occasionally flipping, until each side is crispy. Then dry with a paper towel and let it cool. Once cooled your child can break the bacon into pieces.

5

Mix the heavy cream, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Allow your child to scoop up and add the ingredients. Ask your child which one is larger, ½ teaspoon or ¼ teaspoon.

6

Place the brussels sprouts in a baking pan and help your child pour the heavy cream mixture over them. Can your child guess what the next step will be?

7

Help your child measure ½ a cup each of cheddar and parmesan. Sprinkle the bacon and cheese over the brussels sprouts. Share your excitement with your child for this new family tradition.

8

Bake for 10 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted and enjoy with friends and family! Show your gratitude to your child for being such a great helper and starting a new family tradition with this brussels sprouts recipe.
