“It doesn’t matter what we do — I just like to be with you!” Sometimes, the best memories come from unexpected moments. In a special episode of “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” Jodi, her brothers, and her dad turn a rainy day into a chance to get creative and connect in new ways. When their campfire gets rained out, they brainstorm different ways to spend time together.

Inspired by their flexibility and fun, borrow these tigertastic ways to make meaningful memories together — rain or shine!

1 Play a game.

What’s your favorite game to play as a family? Or better yet, is there a game that your child loves that they can teach you? Enjoy this printable card game from “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” or take turns making up your own game. One idea is to shout out a word and take turns thinking of rhyming words — it’s simple, silly, and fun!

2 Make a gift for each other.

Using craft supplies you have at home, try making bookmarks, bracelets, or cards that celebrate what makes your family special. Surprise each other with your creations — or make them together for even more quality time!

3 Get in the kitchen.

Does your family have a favorite recipe, like Mom Tiger’s banana swirl or banana bread? Cooking or baking together can be a fun (and tasty) way to make memories. Use this recipe card to write or draw your recipe to save it for the future. For extra fun, take a picture every time you make the recipe! Over the years, you’ll love looking back at the photos to see how everyone has grown!

4 Spend time remembering.

Celebrate your favorite family moments. Fill out this sheet listing your family’s favorite things and share stories about what makes them special. You can recreate those moments using stuffed animals and some imaginary play. You can also play a guessing game: write favorite activities on slips of paper, pull one out of a hat, and act it out for others to guess.

Paper with get-to-know you questions such as favorite foods and favorite colors.

5 Get creative.

In “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” Jodi’s dad loves to make things, like a slide for marshmallows. What creative invention can you build as a family? Use toys or recycled items like paper towel tubes, egg cartons, or empty containers to create something unique. What will you create together?

Pile of craft supplies including egg carton, tape, scissors, colored paper, cup and lid, etc.

6 Make new memories.

Sometimes you can’t go outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Bring outdoor activities inside with a cozy living room picnic. Spread out a blanket, grab some snacks, and find a few stuffed animals to join you.

Three place settings on the ground on a picnic blanket.

Spending quality time together helps build family bonds, which supports your child’s emotional well-being and resilience. Whether you’re playing, creating, or sharing stories, the memories you make will stay with your family for years to come. Ugga Mugga!
