Visitors to Browne's site are greeted with a clear statement of the candidate's
libertarian creed: "I am running for president because I want you to be free
to live your life as you think it should be lived...free to raise your children
by your values, not those of some far-off bureaucrat...free to keep every
dollar you earn--and spend it, save it, give it away as you think best..."
Elsewhere on the site, visitors can find Browne's stands on specific issues,
including: end the "failed drug war" and free all prisoners convicted of
non-violent violations of federal drug laws; end immigration restrictions; "get
the government completely out of Social Security" and fund private retirement
accounts; and--fearing "entangling alliances"--Browne promises to "bring our
troops home" and "see to it that America has a proper defense against any
missile attack."
Also on the site, visitors can: follow Browne's campaign schedule, watch his
television ads, meet his running mate Art Olivier, and read Browne's campaign journal dating back to
February 2000.

In an election characterized by largely centrist positions, Buchanan offers
himself as the true alternative. The word "abolish" appears more times on
Buchanan's site than perhaps that of any other major candidate. As President,
Buchanan promises to: abolish the Department of Education and the Bureau of
Land Management; abolish all racial quotas and set-asides; abolish all
inheritance and capital gains taxes on family farms; and abolish soft money
contributions. Two other favorite verbs for Buchanan are "dismantle" and
"defund," as in "I will dismantle the Department of Energy and the Department
of Housing and Urban Development" and "I will defund the National Endowment of
the Arts, the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting." Buchanan's health care policy--"phase out foreign aid"
and spend the money instead on Americans here at home--is not much different
from his Trade and Foreign policies which stress "putting the American Economy
before the Global Economy."
In addition to these issue positions, visitors to the site can also find: a
listing of almost every media appearance or media mention of the Buchanan
campaign; full transcripts of major speeches; a complete library of press
releases; and opportunities to join the "Buchanan Brigade" by contributing
money or time. One feature--"On the Trail with Pat and Ezola"--offers the only
significant mention of Buchanan's running mate, Ezola Foster who, curiously, is
rarely mentioned in the dispatches. The site features a minor biographical
sketch about her and some quotes, but none of her issue positions, and virtually no press
clippings about her. Outside of her picture with Pat on the home page the site
does not deal with her at all.

Representing a Natural Law Party/Independent Party coalition, John Hagelin and
his running mate Nat Goldhaber are running under the twin banners-- "Vote
Outside the Box" and "Anything's Possible." The top five features of the
ticket's "20 Point Action Plan to Revitalize America" are: (1) end special
interest control; (2) promote preventive health care; (3) strengthen education;
(4) cut taxes; (4) overhaul the tax code. Also on the site, Hagelin, who
frequently mentions his credentials as a "quantum physicist," explains the core
beliefs of the Natural Law Party: "America's problems are human problems --
crime, drug dependency, domestic violence, even pollution result from a
narrowness of vision that fails to comprehend life's essential unity. The only
way we can overcome these problems is through the expansion of consciousness --
education that actualizes the full potential of the brain." Under a separate
heading, "Life in Accord With Natural Law--The Solution to All
Problems"--Hagelin explains how "mistakes, sickness, and suffering could be
eliminated at their source." In health care, for example, Hagelin proposes to
"end America's `health care crisis'" by "utilizing the profound laws of nature
governing the human physiology and the immune system to prevent disease and
promote health."

"Government of, by, and for the people," the Nader2000 web site promises, "not
monied interests." Under the heading, "Why Vote for Ralph?", the site features
Nader's positions on three issues: Campaign Finance (against "corporatized
candidates," wants to"end legalized bribery" with pubic financing of campaigns
and free TV and Radio air time); Trade (withdraw from NAFTA and the WTO); and
Health Care (we need universal coverage).
Using a combination of detailed argument and selected quotes from Nader media
appearances, the site also offers Nader's positions on a number of other
issues, including: Social Security ("it needs to be improved, not `saved'...by
"radical privatization plans"); Affirmative Action (against quotos, but
strongly in favor of "using race and gender as one of many factors" to consider
when evaluating an applicant; and Nuclear Disarmament ("the United States has
refused to adopt a no-first-use policy... and neither Vice President Gore or
Governor Bush has committed...to the abolition of nuclear weapons as a
long-term goal.").

"Don't waste your vote on George W. Bush," the Phllips2000 site counsels. "A
vote for Howard Phillips is an investment in our future." Phillips, formerly
the presidential nominee of the US Taxpayers Party, seems pre-occupied with the
Republican presidential nominee, offering visitors to his site "Bush Watch"
and "Bush Record" sections to track how the Texas governor is "betraying
conservatives." Couching his position in an oblique, new millenium twist on
George Washington's famous warning to "avoid entangling alliances," Phillips
announces his intention to withdraw the US. from "treaties or global
organizations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, NAFTA,
the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund."
In a section titled "Howard Phillips on the Issues," the candidate needs only a
few short paragraphs to explain what he plans to do as president: veto all
funding for the IRS; work to replace the income tax with a 25% revenue tariff
on imports; repeal the Sixteenth Amendment (federal income tax, adopted in
1913); privatize Social Security; appoint United States Attorneys "to uphold
the Constitution and prosecute every abortionist and abortuary in the United
States"; end any Federal role in education or the environment; and abolish all
welfare programs, among other things.
