Following the My Lai massacre, during which between 347 and 504 civilians were killed, the story remained largely out of the public eye until the media published Haeberle's photographs in November 1969.
Emmett Till's body is taken to Chicago's Roberts Temple Church of God for viewing and funeral services. Emmett's mother decides to have an open casket funeral.
