FRONTLINE Launches FRONTLINE FEATURES: A Dedicated Effort to Produce and Distribute Cinematic, Feature-Length and Short Documentaries

November 18, 2025

TUE., NOV. 18, 2025 FRONTLINE, the award-winning PBS documentary series produced at GBH in Boston, has announced the launch of FRONTLINE FEATURES — a new effort dedicated to producing cinematic feature-length and short documentaries for global, multiplatform distribution.

Building on FRONTLINE’s legacy as U.S. television’s longest-running investigative documentary series, FRONTLINE FEATURES brings the series’ signature, acclaimed journalism to film festivals and theaters ahead of PBS broadcast and streaming premieres.

The launch of this effort marks a new chapter in a decade-long evolution led by Oscar®-winning producer and FRONTLINE’s editor-in-chief and executive producer Raney Aronson-Rath, who has expanded the series’ traditional broadcast reporting into the critically acclaimed documentary space. Under Aronson-Rath’s leadership, FRONTLINE has earned three Academy Award® nominations since 2018 — for Abacus: Small Enough to Jail, For Sama and 20 Days in Mariupol — with the latter winning the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Feature in 2024.

“I see FRONTLINE FEATURES as an extension of our mission — to produce trustworthy, impactful journalism that’s widely accessible to all audiences,” says Aronson-Rath. “As we saw with the success of 20 Days in Mariupol, it’s clear that audiences are passionate about cinematic films that are rooted in investigative reporting. FRONTLINE FEATURES will be dedicated to producing and sharing this type of compelling, feature-length storytelling.”

The first four official FRONTLINE FEATURES productions are 2000 Meters to Andriivka, Antidote, Status: Venezuelan (a short documentary in partnership with ProPublica that premiered at Double Exposure Film Festival) and One in a Million, an upcoming feature documentary in partnership with BBC Storyville that will premiere in 2026.

2000 Meters to Andriivka is the latest collaboration between FRONTLINE and The Associated Press on the ongoing war in Ukraine, from the Oscar®-winning team behind 20 Days in Mariupol (director and Pulitzer Prize-winning AP journalist Mstyslav Chernov, editor/producer Michelle Mizner, and producer Aronson-Rath). The critically acclaimed film will make its North American broadcast and streaming debut on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10/9c on PBS and YouTube, and at 7/6c on PBS.org/frontline and in the PBS App.

From BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker James Jones, Antidote reveals the cost of opposing Vladimir Putin by telling the stories of investigative journalist Christo Grozev and political activist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who put their lives on the line standing up to the Kremlin and the consequences they faced. A Passion Pictures and Bellingcat Production for FRONTLINE FEATURES in association with Impact Partners, Channel 4 and M4 Studio, Antidote originally premiered on FRONTLINE in May 2025 and is now streaming PBS.org/frontline, in the PBS App and on YouTube

“At a time when the documentary industry faces distribution challenges, we hope that FRONTLINE FEATURES can leverage the current distribution channels we’ve built with PBS to ensure that our documentaries are accessible to all audiences — from theatrical to festival screenings, to streaming on YouTube, our website and in the PBS App for free, and reaching millions of viewers on PBS. We want to make this type of vital storytelling available and not behind a paywall,” adds Aronson-Rath.

“FRONTLINE FEATURES embodies two important growth strategies for GBH: telling stories that matter and ensuring that our most impactful work is available wherever there are audiences,” says Susan Golberg, president and CEO of GBH, the leading multiplatform creator for public media in America.

“FRONTLINE FEATURES is an exciting evolution of our longstanding commitment to serving audiences with trusted journalism. We’re proud to work with Raney and the teams at GBH and FRONTLINE and look forward to FRONTLINE FEATURES as a new way to increase the reach and impact of FRONTLINE’s best-in-class films,” adds Paula Kerger, President and CEO, PBS.

The FRONTLINE FEATURES division will be led by FRONTLINE’s senior editorial team. The FRONTLINE FEATURES Advisory Council will be led by Oscar®-winning and Emmy®-winning filmmaker Nina Fialkow, and will include acclaimed filmmakers and journalists such as Simon Kilmurry and Mstyslav Chernov.

“I’m so thrilled to have Nina on board as a thought partner for FRONTLINE FEATURES and look forward to working with her and others as we embark on deepening our commitment to feature films at FRONTLINE,” Aronson-Rath adds.
