The First Episode, a Collaboration with ProPublica, Tells a Surprising Story About Police and Lethal Force

(Nov. 29, 2018) FRONTLINE, the acclaimed PBS investigative documentary outlet, today released the first episode of season two of The FRONTLINE Dispatch — FRONTLINE’s original, narrative podcast that expands the series’ tradition of tough, fair and deeply reported long-form journalism into the audio space.

Season two of The FRONTLINE Dispatch will include 10 biweekly episodes investigating a different national or international story. This new season builds on an eight-episode first season that earned more than one million downloads and investigated everything from child marriage in America to the human cost of the war in Yemen.

The first episode of season two, a collaboration with ProPublica, is available now on all podcast platforms. Called “I Don’t Want to Shoot You, Brother,” it tells a story of police and lethal force — just not the one you might expect. It’s accompanied by an in-depth text story on FRONTLINE and ProPublica’s websites.

Future episodes will be produced with reporters around the country and the world, some of them in collaboration with FRONTLINE’s journalism partners.

“We are so pleased to be back with the second season of The FRONTLINE Dispatch,” says FRONTLINE Executive Producer Raney Aronson-Rath. ”For months, we’ve been hard at work producing and reporting powerful investigative stories that are meant to be heard. We are grateful for the opportunity to share these stories with our listeners.”

The FRONTLINE Dispatch is produced at FRONTLINE’s headquarters at WGBH in Boston and distributed by PRX, a leading podcast creator and distributor working closely with WGBH on a range of podcast initiatives. The FRONTLINE Dispatch is made possible by a generous gift from the Abrams Foundation Journalism Initiative.

In addition to Aronson-Rath, The FRONTLINE Dispatch’s editorial staff includes Andrew Metz (managing editor), Sophie McKibben (series producer), Jeb Sharp (editor and producer), Gabrielle Berbey (production assistant), Sarah Childress (senior editor/reporter), Lauren Ezell Kinlaw (senior story editor), and Amy Gaines (series coordinating producer).

The FRONTLINE Dispatch is available at pbs.org/frontlinedispatch, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, RadioPublic, and other podcast apps.
