TUE., MARCH 27 — New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) recognized Raney Aronson-Rath, editor-in-chief and executive producer of FRONTLINE — PBS’ flagship investigative journalism documentary series produced at GBH in Boston — with the Enid Roth Excellence in Journalism Award at the 44th annual Muse Awards

The Muse Awards pay tribute to “women of vision and achievement in the media and entertainment industry who have used their platform to break barriers, elevate others, and inspire the next generation of leaders.”

“Thank you to the Enid Roth Estate and to New York Women in Film & Television for this recognition … and to Board President Leslie Fields-Cruz and CEO Cynthia Lopez, both of whom I admire so much,” said Aronson-Rath at the Muse Awards ceremony. “What a privilege to do this work — the marrying of journalism and documentary film. It’s what I do at FRONTLINE day in and day out … and I hope that [FRONTLINE’s journalism] propels change and holds those in power to account.”

While accepting the award in New York City, Aronson-Rath spoke to the critical and urgent importance of journalism, now more than ever, amid “terror and war overseas and discord engulfing our own country as we head into a historic and hugely consequential election year.”

Aronson-Rath added: “As I stand here, I feel reinvigorated by your support of me and of our work as journalists and can’t thank you enough for believing in all we do.”

The first woman at the helm of FRONTLINE since its inception in 1983, Aronson-Rath joined FRONTLINE in 2007 as a senior producer. She was named deputy executive producer by David Fanning, the series’ founder, in 2012 and became the series’ executive producer in 2015. She was also named FRONTLINE’s editor-in-chief in 2022.

Overseeing FRONTLINE’s acclaimed reporting and directing the series’ editorial vision, Aronson-Rath executive produces more than 20 in-depth documentaries each year on critical issues facing the U.S. and the world. Under her leadership, FRONTLINE has evolved into a multi-platform organization, expanded its reporting capacity, and won every major award in broadcast journalism.

Aronson-Rath has also spearheaded the series’ expansion into theatrical documentaries, most recently earning an Academy Award® for FRONTLINE’s acclaimed documentary feature film in partnership with The Associated Press, 20 Days in Mariupol

This year’s honorees also include SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, Kyra Sedgewick, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Alex Borstein. You can read a full list of NYWIFT’s 44th Annual Muse Award recipients here.
