Fruit Bat Fruit bats

Fruit bats are far from blind. In fact, they rely primarily on their eyes for navigation—unlike most bats, who navigate by echolocation. The retina of the fruit bat is folded, which provides more room for light-sensitive rods. (For more on rods and cones, read on.)
