Remembering Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the death of Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE.  In the early 1960s, as a young woman, she entered the African forest to study chimps with absolutely no background in animal behavior, rather, equipped only with a keen sense of observation and a love and curiosity about animals.  Her long term study of these primates has fundamentally changed how we view them, from their use of tools to their displays of emotion.  Her contribution to understanding wild animals is nearly unmatched.  Jane will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to the natural world and her contributions and organizations supporting animals, humans — especially children — the environment, and peace on Earth. NATURE is still in production on a two hour documentary, called Matriarch, that details Jane and her work in Gombe, Tanzania.  An air date is still to be determined.

Nature’s Executive Producer, Fred Kaufman, spoke with Dr. Goodall last year about her work, the current state of chimpanzee research and conservation efforts, and how concerned citizens can help chimpanzees thrive as they face threats to their habitats. You can watch that here:
