The Daimler Freightliner Inspiration is now authorized for test-drives on public roads in Nevada with a state license. But the semis won't be completely autonomous. There will always be a licensed truck driver in the seat. The goal is to reduce driver fatigue on long-haul trips. But trucking unions are wary of the change. And it might yet take some time to persuade lawmakers, and the public, that it's safe.
