Shields and Brooks React to the State of the Union, GOP Response

By: Maureen Hoch

Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks offered their reactions to President Obama's State of the Union address and the GOP response, delivered by Va. Gov. Bob McDonnell, at the conclusion of the NewsHour's special State of the Union coverage.

"Change has not come fast enough," the president said during the address in a nod to the criticism his administration has faced in recent weeks. "As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it's time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth."
