Ray Suarez: Peru Making Gains Despite Global Economic Crisis

By: Talea Miller

Just back from a reporting trip to Peru, Ray Suarez sat down with Hari Sreenivasan to share his observations of the South American country, which is experiencing economic growth despite the global recession. He previews his upcoming series on Peru's surprising economic rise, its relationships with Brazil and Chile, as well as programs aimed at improving outcomes for the nation's poorest new mothers and new research into HIV patients, known as "elite controllers," whose bodies are able to control the virus that has ravaged so many communities.

Suarez's series on Peru will air on the NewsHour the week of March 29.
