SNAP participation by Congressional District
There are 63 congressional districts where more than one in five households received food stamps over the last year. With Congress passing the GOP plan to cut Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) funding for about 4 million Americans, it's perhaps not surprising that Democrats represent 54 of those 63 districts where food stamp participation is above 20 percent. But as Washington Post's Reid Wilson notes:
"Despite high rates of poverty back home, party loyalty drove much of the vote ... Among the nine Republicans who represent high-use SNAP districts, only one -- Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.) -- voted against the cuts."
