How news of Ferguson spread across the country via Twitter

Using CartoDB tool, Twitter created a heat map showing how news of Ferguson spread via tweets.

The events in Ferguson, Missouri, have gripped the country in a back-and-forth conversation over race relations in America. That commentary has evolved on social media.

To visualize how that news has spread across the United States, and beyond, Twitter plugged every geo-targeted tweet in connection with Ferguson into a heat map tool run by CartoDB.

Predictably, the epicenter of information started in St. Louis on August 9. Within the day, the news began spreading to both coasts, reaching an explosion of tweets on August 11.

Some states in middle America have remained mostly dark on the matter — at least on Twitter.
