The Apollo has showcased hundreds of performers since the 1930s, including stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, D’Angelo and Lauryn Hill. The Apollo Theater Foundation established an archive to document the iconic performance venue’s rich history, and hopes to recover documents, memorabilia and other artifacts that were lost, discarded or forgotten over the years.
