Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel
Outtakes: Pat Conroy - My Mother and Gone With The Wind

One of the great writers of our time, Pat Conroy tells a poignant story of growing up in the South and listening to his mother read Gone With the Wind with heartfelt emotion and joy. The author of The Prince of Tides, The Great Santini and The Lords of Discipline attributes his mother’s impassioned love of Gone With the Wind to his decision to become a novelist. Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel premieres nationally on Monday, April 2 from 9-10 p.m (check local listings).

Wow. What a moving tribute from Pat Conroy. When I was in high school, I was in the school library on a day when it was likely that snow would cause the next school day to be cancelled. I checked out GWTW, started reading it, and stayed up all night until the next morning to finish about 7/8’s of it.

    Jennifer,
i can totally relate .GWTW is my Mother’s favorite book, which introduced us to it early, and has always been. She is now in her 80s and still reads it every so often. A really good book can take you into worlds you can never dream of being in and leave a lasting impression. I was quite taken with this program as I had known very little about MM!
