The life-sized terracotta warriors of China are known throughout the world. This clay army of 8,000 including infantry, archers, generals and cavalry was discovered by archaeologists in 1974 after farmers digging a well near the Chinese city of Xian unearthed pieces of clay sculpted in human form.
An amazing archaeological find, the terracotta warriors date back more than two thousand years. But what was the purpose of this army of clay soldiers? Who ordered its construction? How were they created? Secrets of the Dead investigates the story behind China’s Terracotta Warriors and documents their return to former glory for the first time. The film premieres nationally Wednesday, May 4 at 8 p.m. on PBS (check local listings).

I noticed the mention of Chinese glass and its properties.I have ancient artifact chinese glass of same kind mentioned.
Fascinating. I missed the TV airing of this and am grateful I was able to view it online. Thank you for making it available.
Very neat show, only wish more of it had been devoted to the strange physical / chemical properties of Chinese purple. My friend (a physics major) and I (chemistry major) were quite fascinated; I wish there were more information as there are few mentions of it on this ancient compound on the internet, as far as I found with a quick google search. Thanks for airing all the shows online PBS! If I wasn’t a broke college student I’d donate some money; haha.
Your ” China’s Terracotta Warriors” is fantastic, unbelieveable.
[...] PBS had a special about the warriors that aired earlier this month. [...]
Outstanding program, thank you very very much.
I loved it! I need to know more about this—- China Purple—-. This is extremely fascinating!!!! More…more…more!
You dragged people through a very in-depth explanation of how the 8000 terra cotta soldiers were made, showing how a company does it now-a-days, by mould making. Then you dumped all that, and showed how it could not have been done by moulds, and gave us a completely different explanation. Such crap! You could have shown how it was “not done” very quickly, rather than dragging us through an elongated worthless postulation that you presented as truth. I hate the deception!
Why it playing in my country(region)??????
I have been to Xi’an many times but have never learned as much as I did from this show – excellent!
Thank you. But I don’t think any object, even something as small as an atom can really be 2D. In this universe everything is 3D. But I would love to watch a further explanation of why I am wrong in that assumption. In any case, I enjoyed the show and appreciate PBS.
