Stephen G. Breyer has served as U.S. Supreme
Court Justice since his appointment by President Clinton in 1994. Justice Breyer was
assistant special prosecutor on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force in 1973
and served as chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee from 1978 to
1979. He also had a long tenure as a law professor at Harvard University and
Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. In 1980, Justice Breyer was appointed
judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and became
the Circuit's chief judge in 1990. He is a graduate of Stanford University,
Oxford University, and Harvard Law School.
