Polls will close at 9 p.m. ET in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Michigan and Wisconsin, which President Donald Trump flipped in 2016, paving his path to victory through the Rust Belt, are both critical battleground states in this election. But a winner is unlikely to be declared in either tonight. Wisconsin is one of four states that does not start processing mail-in ballots until Election Day, and Michigan has seen more legal battles over voting this year than any other state in the country. Arizona and Texas, two typically red states, are also in play this year and rated toss-ups by the Cook Political Report after changing demographics in the states have shifted them left. Meanwhile, Minnesota, where Hillary Clinton won in 2016, is the only blue state with the potential to shift red, as reflected by Trump’s multiple campaign visits to the state.
