President Donald Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stepien has announced a lawsuit in Michigan to halt vote counting until they can be given “meaningful access to numerous counting locations to observe opening of ballots, as guaranteed by Michigan law.” The campaign is also asking to be able to review those ballots that were counted during the period they claim not to have had “meaningful access.” In the statement, Stepien said the campaign had already filed the lawsuit in Michigan’s Court of Claims. Michigan, an important battleground state in this election worth 16 electoral votes, had not voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1988 when it swung for Trump in 2016. His victory there — he won the state by just 0.2 percentage points — and in other Rust Belt states that like Michigan had supported Democratic presidential candidates in previous years was critical to his election. The Associated Press has not yet declared a winner in Michigan, as votes are still being counted and it’s too close to call, but Joe Biden is currently leading.
