JOBS NUMBERS – December’s unemployment report was published early this morning, and showed the country losing a net 85,000 jobs – worse than analysts had been expecting. On the program tonight, we’ll talk to David Leonhardt of the New York Times about the numbers, and what they say about the economy’s future.

DETROIT ARRAIGNMENT – The Nigerian man accused of attempting to blow up a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day made his first appearance in federal court today. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was charged with attempted murder, and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Paul Egan of the Detroit News tells us what happened inside and outside the courtroom.

INTELLIGENCE ASSESSMENT – Judy Woodruff continues our reporting on the aftermath of the attempted Christmas Day bombing with a look at how intelligence is gathered and analyzed, and a discussion with Former US Senator Slade Gorton (R-Wash.), and Jamie Gorelick who served as Deputy US Attorney General in the Clinton Administration.
